According to the WHO, the percentage of Indians who donate their organs remains abysmally low, with only 0.01% coming forward to pledge their organs. This causes India to lag behind several European countries and America where the rate is higher. Ignorance and prejudice continue to be the main challenges in organ transplantation in India. However, India performs the second largest number of transplants in the world. The most commonly transplanted organs in India are cornea, kidney, liver, bone marrow and heart.
