Las Colinas, Dallas, Texas, USA, ZIP Code: 75039
I live in Las Colinas, Dallas, a vibrant and diverse community full of young professionals. My house is a thirty-minute drive to anywhere, really, and ten minutes from uptown Dallas. In the US, it’s location, location, location always because there’s very little public transport. You have to drive and I don’t want to spend my time cooped up in a car in traffic.
Some people in my community have their own gondolas and if you’re friends with one of them, you can take a ride. Many of them spend birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions on the lake, dressed up like they’re in Venice! Community life revolves around the lake – people walk their dogs and use the biking paths. I go for a run and grab a cold brew on the way home.
The Toyota Music Factory is right across the street from me. There are always ticketed concerts happening in the auditorium but weekends are even better. The open-air arena is thrown open and anyone can go there with a lawn chair and listen to the free live gigs. The arena is surrounded by cafes and restaurants, all of which have open patios, so you can listen to music as you eat, or get a drink and go sit on the grass.
The area has a very diverse population. Uptown Dallas is full of great Asian restaurants, if you want authentic Vietnamese, Korean, or Indian food, you’re in a good place. The Korean bakeries are my favourite – I drive in to get a boba tea whenever I can.
