Telecom professional and cricketer Pushkar Sharma on life in Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya, ZIP Code: 00623

I have been living and working at a telecommunications firm in Kenya since 2019. Over the years, Kenya has become a very important part of my personal and professional journey. In addition to my corporate career, I am also a dedicated cricketer and have participated in the prestigious African Premier League, representing Kenya.

Over the past seven years in Kenya, I have experienced the local culture, built professional relationships, and learned a lot from the people and the environment.

Nairobi: A vibrant and welcoming city

I live in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. Nairobi is a beautiful and vibrant city, and one of the things I like most about it is its pleasant weather throughout the year. The city offers a unique combination of modern urban life, greenery, nature, and a peaceful atmosphere.

What I like most about Nairobi is its natural surroundings, peaceful environment, and people. The overall atmosphere is welcoming, and I have found people to be polite and respectful. Nairobi also offers good opportunities for professionals and entrepreneurs.

Work culture and professional opportunities

From a professional perspective, I would say Kenya is a very good place to work and do business. The work environment is quite professional, and living here has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Staying connected to Indian culture

One thing I really appreciate about Nairobi is that, even when you are outside India, you can still easily find places connected with our Indian culture, faith, and traditions.

There is a Ram Mandir in Parklands, ISKCON in Ngara, and a Gurudwara in Pangani. These places give me a feeling of being connected to India and our culture, even while living abroad.

For me, these places also carry a deeper meaning. They remind me that God is everywhere in the world. With God’s blessings, I have continued to receive new opportunities and strength throughout my journey in Kenya.

My experience as an expat in Kenya

As an expat, I can say that Kenya has been a wonderful place to live, work, and do business. Since 2019, I have had the opportunity to experience the country closely and understand its culture and way of life.

My experience here has been very valuable. I have learned a lot professionally, developed strong relationships, and grown personally. Living away from India teaches you to become more independent, adaptable, and open-minded.

Overall, I have a very positive view of life in Kenya, and I will always be grateful for the experiences and opportunities the country has given me.

A typical day in Nairobi

I usually start my morning with a gym session, which helps me stay active and maintain a healthy routine. After that, I focus on my work during the day. I generally keep my work hours professional and structured, and in the evening, I return home and spend some time relaxing.

One thing I really appreciate about Kenya is its professional work culture, especially the importance given to work timings and maintaining a good work-life balance. My routine is mainly a combination of fitness, work, personal time, and peaceful evenings at home.

My roots in Delhi and Mumbai

I am originally from Delhi, India. However, a significant part of my education and professional journey has been in Mumbai. I completed my education there and also started my professional career in Mumbai.

So, I have a strong connection with both Delhi and Mumbai, while Kenya has been an important part of my journey since 2019.
