Muscat, Oman, Zip Code: 133
In 2016, my professional journey took me to the sun-soaked landscapes of Muscat, Oman. As an oil and gas engineer, the transition marked not only a change in career landscapes but a profound shift in lifestyle as well. Little did I know that this desert city would become not just a workplace, but a home for my family. Initially, my days were consumed by the rig’s demanding routines, but in 2019, my wife and I decided to make Muscat our residence, bringing our four-year-old son along to this beautiful country.
We live in the Al Khuwair locality – which I believe is the most vibrant neighbourhood that perfectly blends modernity with Omani traditions. The area is adorned with modern apartments, lush parks, and a thriving local market. The juxtaposition of traditional Omani architecture with state-of-the-art facilities is a testament to the city’s commitment to progress while preserving its rich heritage. Life in Al Khuwair is a harmonious blend of work and leisure. Mornings are nice with the golden shining sun. The local market, with its fresh produce and fragrant spices, has become a daily stop for our family. The neighbourhood’s diverse culinary offerings, from traditional Omani delicacies to international cuisines, cater to every palate.
Muscat has a rich culture that we’ve enjoyed exploring. The Grand Mosque, with its exquisite architecture and serene ambiance, stands as a testament to Omani craftsmanship. The Mutrah Corniche, overlooking the azure waters of the Gulf of Oman, is a favourite spot for family outings, where we enjoy the sea breeze and the stunning sunset. Muscat has a long history, and places like the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Royal Opera House, and the Bait Al Zubair Museum let us see Oman’s past and how it’s embracing modern life while keeping its traditions.
One of the most heartwarming aspects of life in Muscat is the bond shared by the Indian community. From Diwali celebrations that light up the neighbourhood to community gatherings during festivals like Eid and Christmas, there is a sense of unity that transcends borders. This sense of togetherness makes Muscat feel like a second home to my family.
Local festivals, such as the colourful Muscat Festival and the traditional celebrations of Oman National Day, offer a deeper understanding of Omani culture. The city comes alive with cultural performances and vibrant displays that showcase the pride and joy of the Omani people. In the heart of the desert, Muscat has become more than a workplace; it’s a place where my family and I have found a sense of belonging.
