Manama, Bahrain, ZIP Code: 323
I work in the banking sector at Manama. It’s the capital city of Bahrain. The place offers a fusion of cultural richness, economic opportunities, and a enjoyable social scene. When I came here few years back, I was greeted with Indian faces all over because a large part of the country comprises of expats, and Indians form a good percentage of the expat community, here.
One of the most appealing aspects of life in Manama is its harmonious coexistence of diverse cultures. I find a piece of home in the city’s markets, where I find familiar spices, textiles, and other items essential for maintaining the way I have been living in India.
Socially, Manama provides a plethora of interesting experiences. The city boasts a diverse range of restaurants, each offering a delectable assortment of cuisines from around the world, including authentic Indian fare. I often go to these places to savour familiar flavours and connect with fellow countrymen to alleviate my homesickness.
I have been exploring traditional souks (bazaars) and historical sites, such as the Bahrain Fort, to delve into the city’s rich history. And for my contemporary leisure cravings, I head to shopping malls, and art galleries.
One major attraction for people in Manama is the Bahrain National Theatre. After the Cairo and Muscat Opera, this is the third largest theatre of the Middle East. As a tribute to The Thousand and One Nights, its auditorium has 1001 seats. The interiors of the architectural marvel is a sight to behold. People can experience the excellence of a wide array of shows starting from ballet, classical music presentations to contemporary musicals.
I have been there a couple of times to not just get mesmerised with the shows but also to admire the beautiful architecture.
Manama is a beautifully amalgamates tradition and modernity which has helped me to build a fulfilling life, while staying connected to my roots in a cosmopolitan culture. What I find challenging is adapting to the climate, which is hot and humid, most months of the year.
