Brussels, Belgium, ZIP Code: 1070
I work in the telecom industry. When I movd to Brussels a couple of years back, I looked at it not only as an opportunity to grow my work experience but also as a new chapter of my life that encompassed living abroad for the first time.
We do not see the sun quite often in Brussels but August is one of the best times. It’s the time for enjoying good weather and the breath-taking flower carpet created at the Grand Palace (Grote Markt). I simply love the unique designs and intricate patterns of flowers displayed during this international event.
The city centre at Brussels is compact and one can explore it easily by walking around, relishing the renowned Belgian fries sold by street vendors across the city. I also love visiting Maison Antoine at Place Jourdan. It’s an eating joint established in 1948 that serves mouthwatering classic Belgian fries and burgers.
Living in Brussels is like residing in a small city with the liveliness of a metropolis. Exploring the areas near the city centre provides insights into non-touristy locales giving a feel of the real Brussels. I live in a neighbourhood called Anderlecht. The public transportation is efficient and facilitates easy navigation around Brussels.
The city boasts of a beautiful mix of architectural styles, ranging from Art Nouveau and Art Deco to modernist structures, making it ideal for an architectural walking tour.
Bois de la Cambre and Tenbosch, the two beautiful public parks in the city are my favourite spots.
Brussels hosts people from several countries who speak different languages. In a short span of time, I have integrated into the city’s culture pretty well and have become part of its diverse community. This was easier as there are many expats of different nations here trying to fit in just like me.
