China’s Olympics golds come from 6 sports

China’s sports assembly line is designed for one purpose: churning out gold medals for the glory of the nation. Here, silver and bronze medals barely count. This year, the country has sent as many as 413 athletes to the Tokyo Olympics, its largest ever delegation. China aims to lead the gold medal tally by the end of the Games. In fact, the since 1984, 75% of China’s Olympic golds have come from six sports: table tennis, shooting, diving, badminton, gymnastics, and weight lifting. More than two-thirds of the country’s golds have been bagged by women athletes and this year too nearly 70% of its Tokyo delegation are women.
