Recalling the experience, he tells Global Indian, “I was fortunate to have received a research assistantship at the Stanford Computer Security Lab under Professor John Mitchel who is one of the leading academicians and researchers in the field of computer security.” His journey to Stanford was supported by several scholarships, including the Bharat Petroleum Scholarship and the K.C. Mahindra Trust Scholarship, easing the financial strain of studying abroad.

At Stanford, Divye’s talent was recognized early on. He was selected to be part of the computer science graduate student council, representing student perspectives on critical departmental issues as well as collaborating with the professors to improve the curriculum of the master’s program. His engagement extended beyond academics as he also joined the Stanford Student Entrepreneurship Labs, a startup incubator, which provided him a strong understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Starting career at Microsoft

After completing his master’s, Divye began his career in product management at Microsoft, where he joined the machine learning team, focusing on ads ranking and relevance for Bing.com. “Product management appealed to me because it offered end-to-end ownership for building sophisticated technical products,” he explains. This inclination led him to his next significant role at LinkedIn in 2014.

“As a result of my business impact, my career accelerated rapidly—I received three promotions in three years, ultimately becoming the youngest Group Product Manager at the company,” he shares.

Confronting challenges

Divye’s journey has been as challenging as it has been rewarding. “As a student at Stanford and now as an executive, I have always had to juggle several competing priorities,” he shares, describing the balancing act he managed between academics, a research assistantship, a startup, and student council responsibilities. Today, as an executive and father of two toddlers, he continues to navigate between business demands and personal commitments.

Moving to the U.S. as the first in his family to pursue higher education abroad, he initially lacked immediate family or friends. Over time, he built a strong support network of friends and mentors that now serves as his foundation.

His career path also included several setbacks, but he believes in the power of persistence. “At the start of my career when I wanted to break into product management, I was rejected by several companies as I had no prior experience as PM. However, persistence eventually paid off and I was able to secure a product role at Microsoft,” he mentions, “When I decided to pursue my MBA, I was rejected the first time I applied to business schools. I worked on building a stronger profile and eventually secured an admission at Wharton Business School which offers the top executive MBA program in the US.,” he says, proud about his recent accomplishment.
