Adapa Haripriya: Building a career in content moderation through continuous learning

Written by: Global Indian

Adaptability has been a defining theme throughout Adapa Haripriya’s career From overcoming language barriers and mastering communication with international teams at work to supporting global projects for Google and continuously upgrading her skills, the Electronics and Communication Engineering graduate has built a reputation for resilience and a willingness to learn.

With experience in content moderation and online platform integrity, she now looks ahead to the next stage of her career with the same growth mindset that has guided her journey from the very beginning.

Beginning a career in the technology industry

After graduating in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Spoorthy College of Engineering in Hyderabad in 2020, Haripriya entered the corporate world and began building her career with Wipro and later Cognizant.

With around one-and-a-half years of documented professional experience, she has developed expertise in content moderation and online platform operations. Her responsibilities included reviewing user-generated content, ensuring compliance with community guidelines, safeguarding user experience, and adhering to privacy regulations while handling sensitive information.

Much of her work involved supporting projects for Google and collaborating with teams based overseas.

“From the beginning, most of my projects involved international clients,” she says. Working with professionals based primarily in the United States gave her exposure to global work cultures and standards while strengthening her communication skills.

Achieving early recognition

One of Haripriya’s proudest professional achievements came early in her career. “Many people take two or three years to reach an SME position, but I was entrusted with those responsibilities within two months because of my performance,” she says.

The recognition strengthened her confidence and reinforced her belief that dedication and quality work can create opportunities regardless of experience. During the early stages of projects, she often helped colleagues understand processes and requirements, demonstrating leadership qualities from the outset.

Turning challenges into opportunities

Like many young professionals, Haripriya encountered workplace politics and uncertainties. Yet she remained focused on delivering her best. “I faced several challenges, but I always focused on doing my work sincerely,” she says.

Another obstacle was communication. Although she studied in English-medium institutions, everyday conversations in her hometown near Warangal were primarily in Telugu. Interacting with international clients and understanding different accents initially proved challenging. “In the beginning, understanding different accents was difficult for me,” she recalls.

Determined to improve, she enrolled in spoken English classes and supplemented her learning through YouTube videos and self-practice. “I used to practise in front of a mirror and work on small things every day to improve my vocabulary and communication skills,” she says.

Those efforts paid off. “Now, I can understand different accents and communicate with confidence,” she says. Her willingness to invest in self-improvement enabled her to work effectively with overseas teams and strengthened her ability to operate in multicultural environments.

Committed to lifelong learning

Haripriya believes that learning should never stop. Alongside her professional responsibilities, she completed IBM certification courses in cloud computing, including Introduction to Cloud and IBM Cloud Essentials V3 through IBM Developer Skills Network.

She describes herself as someone with a strong desire to learn new technologies and adapt to changing environments.

Her experience in content moderation strengthened her attention to detail, decision-making abilities, and understanding of online safety and platform integrity—skills that are increasingly valuable in today’s digital economy. “Even now, I continue trying to improve myself because learning is a continuous process,” she says.

Leadership beyond the workplace

Sports have also played an important role in shaping Haripriya’s personality. During her engineering days, she represented her college in Kabaddi competitions across Hyderabad, with her team winning first prize in inter-college tournaments. “Our team won first place in inter-college competitions, and those experiences taught me teamwork and discipline,” she says.

She also enjoys playing cricket and believes sports helped her develop resilience and a collaborative mindset.

Embracing motherhood with courage

Recently, Haripriya entered a new phase of life as the mother of twin boys. Following a complicated delivery and recovery period, she chose to take a career break to focus on her health and family.

Rather than viewing the pause as a setback, she sees it as another responsibility to embrace with courage. “As women, we need to be strong enough to balance both our personal and professional responsibilities,” she says. Supported by her family, she remains optimistic about returning to the workforce and is already exploring future opportunities, including remote roles.

Looking toward a global future

Haripriya and her husband aspire to build a future abroad, particularly in Australia. Her experience working on international projects and her commitment to self-improvement have strengthened that ambition. Her desire to create better opportunities for her children serves as a powerful motivation. “I want my children to have opportunities that will help them build a bright future,” she says.

From a village near Warangal to collaborating with international teams early in her career and continually investing in her own growth, Adapa Haripriya’s journey reflects resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.
