This paradox is driven by several factors, including high unemployment, low wages, rural distress, and social pressures in their homeland. Many individuals believe that opportunities overseas will improve their financial prospects and overall quality of life, even if the journey is uncertain and the lifestyle challenging.
A key factor behind illegal immigration is the hope of securing permanent residency in developed nations like the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Since legal pathways, such as business or student visas, require financial backing, qualifications, or sponsorships, some individuals take the risk of overstaying visas or using unauthorized means to enter these countries. One of the most infamous routes is the “Dunki route,” an illegal migration pathway that moves through South America toward the U.S., often involving life-threatening conditions, including dense jungles and dangerous smugglers. Despite awareness of these risks, the desperation to escape economic hardship drives thousands to attempt this perilous journey.
Once they arrive, however, the reality is far from ideal. Many undocumented immigrants struggle to secure stable employment, forcing them to take up multiple low-paying jobs. Without legal status, they cannot access government welfare programs, affordable healthcare, or even basic employment rights. Some live in constant fear of deportation, making it difficult to integrate into society.
Despite these challenges, the cycle continues because success stories of a few individuals often overshadow the struggles of many. Social media plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions, but many aspiring migrants remain unaware of the difficulties they will encounter.
