(Our Bureau, May 25) Fugitive Indian diamantaire Mehul Choksi has been missing from the Caribbean island of Antigua since Sunday night, multiple news reports suggest. Police have launched a manhunt for Choksi, who fled India in 2018 days before his role in the ₹12,000 crore PNB fraud case came to light. There’s speculation that the Gitanjali Gems CMD may have fled to Cuba but his lawyer Vijay Aggarwal says that’s impossible given the Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol on India’s request. Choksi’s family members are worried for his safety, Aggarwal added. New Delhi has been pushing for the 63-year-old businessman’s extradition from Antigua.
