IISc is world’s top research varsity with maximum ‘citations per faculty’: QS rankings

(Our Bureau, June 10) Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science has been ranked as the world’s best research university in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2022. 

“According to the citations per faculty (CPF) indicator, when universities are adjusted for faculty size (the size of the institution is taken into account for calculating the CPF), IISc Bangalore is the world’s top research university, achieving a perfect score of 100/100 for this metric,” QS said in a press statement. 

CPF focuses on the performance of the papers an institution produces that are actually indexed in Scopus, the largest database of peer-reviewed literature. On this count, IISc is ahead of American universities such as Princeton, Harvard and Caltech in the 1,300-university survey.   

Meanwhile, IIT-Guwahati ranked 41 on the CPF indicator. 

Overall, India’s tally remained unchanged for the fifth consecutive year with just three universities featuring in the world’s top 200IIT-Bombay at 177, IIT-Delhi at 185 and IISc at 186According to a report in The Times of India, Indian universities have made consistent progress in QS’s Academic Reputation metric with 20 of 35 of them improving their scores. Globally, MIT continued to occupy the top slot for the ninth year running.
