Living a quaint life in Hoboken

I spent three years living on 2nd Street, Hoboken, just five minutes from New York City by ferry, bus, or train. Located along the Hudson River, Hoboken has one of the world’s best views – the New York City skyline.

A favourite with Bollywood filmmakers, many films have been shot here, including Sridevi’s English Vinglish – I could recognise the train station, which looks a lot like Grand Central, with an old clock tower.

This is the birthplace of Frank Sinatra and one cannot miss the street named after him in the town. The bakery featured in the TLC show, Cake Boss, is also on the main street – Washington Street, right by where I lived. There’s always a queue outside Carlo’s Bake Shop with people waiting for hours for cookies and cupcakes.

The pier opens up in summer, one can spot food trucks almost everywhere. I love lobster rolls and pizzas. The company I worked for at the time would close out the pier for us on Saturday afternoons, so we would head there for pizza and cocktails. A young and dynamic town, it’s full of cafes, restaurants, and great nightlife. Hoboken is as expensive as Manhattan.
