Enjoying the vibes of Florence, Italy

I got an opportunity to move to Florence in Italy two years back due to my job. I am so grateful about this lucky chance which has led me to experience an altogether different world. This city is absolutely fascinating. I live in Santo Spirito, one of the best neighborhoods for expats.

Florence is a major tourist attraction for those coming to Italy. Every nook and corner looks picturesque and despite staying here for two years, I look at it with the same appreciation as when I had first arrived in the city.

A marketplace in Florence

Santo Spirito attracts lots of students, expats, and artists. There is a daily market in the area from where I pick most of the stuff like locally produced vegetables. During the evenings the locality gets transformed into a haven for young locals and tourists enjoying pizza and having a good time together. I walk around the area quite often – in the mornings to shop for daily needs and during the evenings just to stroll around and enjoy the liveliness of the place.

Since the area comes within the limited traffic zone so walking is the best option, and thankfully my apartment is nearby. As I frequently use public transportation, Santo Spirito is a good area for me to live in Florence. Since Italians love social life and value community, there are fairs and festivals most of the weekends drawing huge crowds. There is never a dull moment for me here.

There are many museums and architectural marvels to visit in the city. One such place is the Palazzo Medici Riccardi. One of the prime attractions of Florence, it’s a classic example of Renaissance architecture. Originally the residence of the Royal Medici family of Florence, the building was transformed into a museum later, and also became the workplace for the legendary artists like Paolo Uccello, Michelangelo, Boticelli, and many others. It’s a good place to learn about the glorious history of Florence.

Other such sites like the world-renowned Leonardo Da Vinci Museum, UNESCO world heritage site, the Square of Miracles, Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Uffizi Gallery are some of the famous tourist spots that are located in the city.

Sometimes I take day trips to locations just outside of the city limits relishing beautiful train rides.
