Canberra, Australia, ZIP Code: 2601
I moved to Australia in 2017 from the eastern part of India, and now call Canberra home. It’s a multicultural city and I do not feel out of place here.
With a background in software engineering my husband has managed to secure a permanent skill visa here. We lived in Perth and Sydney before moving to Canberra. Since it’s a smaller city and reasonably colder in winter, initially I felt unsure moving here but now love the city.
Since traffic jams are very less here, reaching from one point to another is not time taking. We have some Indian community groups and we celebrate festivals together. My daughters are learning classical Indian dance and that’s a boon in a foreign land.
There are many Chinese and British nationals here apart from of course the Australians so my kids get an opportunity to explore other cultures.
This capital city of Australia, offers a wide range of activities and attractions like Lake Burley Griffin. A beautiful artificial lake in the heart of the city, offering opportunities for boating, sailing, kayaking, cycling, and picnicking along its scenic shores. We often go there on weekends as kids love the place.Apart from that we also visit the Australian National Botanic Gardens which has a diverse collection of Australian native plants, offering peaceful walks, picnics, and educational experiences.
During the month of March, the city gets resplendent with colour. We enjoy the sky filled with colourful hot air balloons during the annual event – Canberra Balloon Spectacular. While September – October brings Floriade Festival, the largest flower festival in Australia, featuring beautiful floral displays, gardening workshops, and live entertainment.
With many excellent restaurants, cafes, and wineries to explore, there are enough choices for the weekend outings.
