Coronavirus has orphaned lakhs globally

The coronavirus pandemic has taken an unprecedented toll on humankind. Not only has it brought entire economies buckling to their knees, the loss of human life too has been devastating. According to a recent report by The Lancet, the pandemic has orphaned as many as 1.19 children in India as of April 2021. This number would’ve risen significantly given the devastating second wave in the subcontinent. Globally, over 11.34 lakh children have lost their primary caregivers due to the pandemic since March 2020.
