Arvind Krishna Early Life and Education

Arvind Krishna was born on February 1, 1962, in West Godavari District, in India. He grew up in India and moved to the United States to earn a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1991.

He went on to earn a PhD in electrical engineering from the same institution.

Arvind Krishna Professional Life

Krishna began his professional career at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center in 1990, where he worked on various projects related to computer systems and networks. In 2013, he was appointed as the General Manager of IBM’s Development and Manufacturing, Systems and Technology Group, where he oversaw the development of IBM’s hardware, including servers and storage devices.

In 2019, Krishna was appointed Senior Vice President of IBM’s Cloud and Cognitive Software, which included IBM’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence businesses. Under his leadership, IBM made several strategic acquisitions, including The Weather Company and Red Hat, which have helped to transform IBM’s business and position it as a leader in cloud computing and AI.

In April 2020, Krishna was named the CEO of IBM, succeeding Ginni Rometty. He became the first Indian-American to lead the company..
