(Our Bureau, May 20) State broadcaster Doordarshan is planning to set up a BBC News-style channel that will “project India’s point of view” to the world. Doordarshan’s parent Prasar Bharati floated a draft Expression of Interest inviting comments from private players for starting the channel, christened DD International. It will be an overseas-focused initiative with bureaus across the world and 24X7 streaming services. The move comes at a time when the Centre is facing international media criticism for its handling of Covid-19’s second wave and its vaccine policy.
