Living in the heart of Helsinki, the Finnish capital, is very different from life in any other city. It is because Helsinki is probably one of the few capital cities in the world where nature thrives along with modern infrastructure and cutting-edge technology.

The city residents love this perfect balance of nature and concrete which gives the city a unique characteristic. Helsinki’s famous Central Park is a green forest that runs the length of the city. The ten-kilometer-long park is located within walking distance of the city center.

My apartment is just 200 meters away from the park, which gives me the freedom to enjoy nature without getting away from the bustling downtown area.

The lush green forest is abundant with summer berries and autumnal mushrooms. So, just like the Finns, I have come to enjoy foraging here. This habit of frequent foraging has also piqued my interest in a lifestyle where our eating habits lean towards the idea of ‘nature on a plate’.

My weekend ritual of going for a walk in the forest not only relieves my stress but also brings tranquility, which is the core of the Finnish way of life. This, definitely, is one of the main reasons why Finland is the happiest country in the world. Staying connected to nature without having to go too far from home makes my life here special.
