Finding home away from home in Singapore

I first arrived in Singapore about 11 years back, and I was completely mesmerised by this country. Singapore is a multicultural and diverse city-state and home to several vibrant communities.

I live in one of the most beautiful localities in Singapore – Punggol. Located in the northeast region of the country, it used to be a fishing village before it was developed into a modern town with public housing estates, shopping malls, and recreational facilities. The area is known for its scenic waterfront and outdoor spaces, including the Punggol Waterway Park and the Punggol Promenade.

I really like the fact that I do not live in a concrete jungle here. One of the places that I visit quite regularly is the waterfront. There are several benches on the side and I like to go there in the evenings to unwind, away from the bustling city and its chaos. There is a Jewel Bridge over one of the lakes, which I believe is the best place to enjoy sunset views. Structured in a jewel shape, it creates a picturesque view of a ball floating on the water.

I am a native of Odisha and have a deep connection with the sea. Fortunately, the beach is only about 15 minutes drive from where I live, and that is another place that I love to visit along with my daughter. Watching her play in the sand while listening to the sound of waves crashing against the beach is just magical.
