The rise in global temperatures could have disastrous consequences

As per the latest report by UN’s IPCC, global temperatures are set to rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius over the next 20 years; a disastrous fallout of climate change. While the temperature may, at face value, seem insignificant, it does have far reaching consequences. Since the 19th Century, the Earth has warmed by an average of 1 degree Celsius; however, some places such as the Arctic have warmed much more. This has resulted in major ecological problems. According to a 2021 study in The Cryosphere journal, British researchers revealed that over 28 trillion tons of ice had been lost between 1994 and 2017. Extreme weather conditions that result in floods and uncontrolled forest fires are some of the other fallouts of this global rise in temperature. Several species are on the brink of extinction as well. A seemingly minor rise in temperature could actually have some very far reaching consequences, which is the IPCC has sounded a warning bell.
