According to Twitter, India is the single largest source of government information requests during the second half of 2020. India accounted for 25% of the global volume as per the Twitter Transparency Report that was recently released. Globally, Twitter received 14,561 such requests for 51,584 accounts in the period from June to December 2020. Of these, 3,615 requests came from India alone, an increase of 38% from the first half of the year.
For the June-December period, the compliance request stood at 30% globally and 0.6% in India. The US ranked second in terms of volume of information requests with 22% of the global information requests.
