Can India help the UK create the next Silicon Valley?
The UK is looking to transform the area between Oxford and Cambridge into a new Silicon Valley, but it faces a shortage of skilled talent. India, as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, has a vast pool of tech talent that could help bridge this gap.
According to Amarjit Singh, CEO of India Business Group, India has become a global hub for engineering talent in recent years. With 65% of the country’s 1.4 billion population under the age of 35, there is a massive potential economic benefit to be gained from their young workforce.
The UK could benefit from this talent pool, but immigration remains a contentious issue in British politics. It is uncertain how a potential influx of skilled Indian labor would be received locally. Nonetheless, the UK should explore all avenues to attract and retain talented individuals from India to help drive its tech industry forward.
