Indian Tourism

Tourism is an important part of the country's economy and the sector is growing rapidly. The world Travel and Tourism Council calculated that Indian tourism generated Rs 16.91 lakh crore, or 9.2.% of India's GDP in 2018 and supported 42.673 million jobs or 8.1 percent of its total employment. India's medical tourism is also a booming industry, worth around US $6 billion. Over 17.9 million foreign tourists arrived in India in 2019.

Indian tourism is booming because of the cornucopia of delights that the country has to offer, from the highest mountains to the depeest ravines, pristine white sand beaches to the sprawling Thar desert, reefs, archipelagoes, coastlines and dense forests, to some of the world's largest rivers. Ancient architecture, art, music and dance also draw people from around the world. India offers great diversity in tourism, from mountain ranges to unexplored coastlines, Indian art and culture, cinema and mysticism.
