Charity begins at home, and the founder of Wipro, Azim Premji, swears by this adage. The 76-year-old business tycoon is known for philanthropy and never misses a chance to go out of his way to help people. Today, many companies have CSR as a mandate. But the IT czar says:
“You cannot mandate philanthropy, it must come from within, and when it does, it is deeply satisfying.”
Incidentally, Premji has committed almost his entire wealth of over $80 billion to philanthropic activities. According to data from Hurun India, the billionaire – one of India’s top donors – gave away about $3 million per day in 2020.
