(Our Bureau, May 14) American Indians can now use Google Pay to transfer money to their family and friends in India. Google will wire the transfers through Western Union and Wise. At present, Google Pay’s remittance service will be available in two countries only — India and Singapore. The tech giant plans to extend it to 280 countries by the end of the year. Western Union has offered unlimited free transfers till June 19, while Wise will offer free first transfer up to $500. Google has not disclosed the service charges after June 19. Services are available only to individuals and not businesses. The move will boost money transfers to India, which received the highest amount of remittances at over $83 billion in 2020.
