As IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad gears up for its 100th birthday, its alumnus Avlesh Singh has pledged ₹ 1 crore to the centenary fund of the alma mater. The co-founder and CEO of WebEngage, one of the leading tech startups of India, has already donated ₹25 lakhs. The rest of the amount would be transferred to the institution’s centenary fund by March 2026.
Singh is a 2005 batch BTech student of IIT(ISM) which was established in 1926. The institution was known as Indian School of Mines before being renamed as IIT(ISM). “I am happy to give back and hope many others come forward,” Singh said while donating the first installment.
With offices in India, Dubai, Sao Paulo and Jakarta, Singh’s startup has been identified by leading global publications as the fastest growing tech company in the Asia Pacific. With a team of four hundred employees Singh has been serving customers across India, Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia with his company’s flagship marketing automation product.
Prof Rajiv Shekhar, director of IIT (ISM) lauded his former pupil’s contribution and love for the institution that helped him shape his life.
The centenary fund
With the fast-approaching centenary year, there is immense excitement amidst the staff and the students of IIT(ISM). The centenary fund has been set up by the international relations and alumni affairs department of the institute in association with IIT (ISM) Alumni Association (ISMAA) to generate ₹100 crore for various infrastructural development works like construction of a centenary building and an auditorium.
“The building is not going to be built by bricks and cement or sand or chips, it is going to be built with our emotion, passion, love, commitment and a deep sense of gratitude to our alma mater,” mentioned the dean of the institution, RM Bhattacharjee in his message to the alumni community while appealing for the fund.
Avlesh Singh is one of the first alumni to pledge for the cause.
