(May 10, 2023) Born in Tehran, Iran, Ritu Prakash Chhabria moved to London at the age of nine for her double major in economics and marketing. She decided, however, to return to her roots and came back to Pune, where she established the Mukul Madhav Foundation (MMF) in 1999. She intended to offer a structured platform to umpteen social welfare programmes. “Mukul Madhav Foundation has touched more than 8 lakh people and has helped the most vulnerable communities with quality healthcare, education, equality, and empowerment,” Ritu said in an interview.
For the past two decades, the Mukul Madhav Foundation has dedicated its efforts to creating a better world. Their focus is on improving agriculture, and rural development, supporting the Clean Ganga fund, fighting hunger and poverty, environmental sustainability, disaster relief, preventive healthcare, education, women empowerment, skill development, and technology incubation.
The philanthropist is committed to reducing the suffering of underprivileged individuals by ensuring access to quality education and healthcare. The MMF has made significant strides in this mission, establishing neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, offering affordable English-medium education, and providing support to differently-abled individuals through services like prosthetic surgeries, physiotherapy, and wheelchair provision.
“I think it’s important that each child understands the need to give back and this needs to be cultivated in our schools. In Mukul Madhav Vidyalaya, children have learned that each citizen whether young or old needs to be responsible towards their duties it’s not all about me-myself-and-I, it’s about you giving back to society,” Ritu explained.
MMF, under the Global Indian’s guidance has received numerous global accolades. From Excellence in Philanthropy by Asian Business Leadership Forum in Dubai to Social Entrepreneurship Award by Business World India, she has a list of awards in her bag. Ritu’s guiding philosophy has always been ‘Live to Give,’ and she has been actively engaged in various initiatives to serve and give back to society.
