:

(Our Bureau, June 8) US-based Dev Joneja, chief risk officer at Exodus Point Capital Management, has donated $175,000 (₹1.27 crore) towards his alma mater IIT Kanpur. The funds will be used to set up the Pavitar Joneja Chair (in honor of his mother) within the humanities and social science department of the institute with the aim of developing new learning paradigms and training methods. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Joneja said that the humanities and social sciences courses that he took at IIT-K (batch of 1984) played a bigger role in his career than he appreciated at the time and hence he was keen to support this part of an IIT student’s education. Joneja has been regularly giving back to his alma mater: In 2019, he had gifted $100,000 for upgrading the Class of 1984 Faculty Research Fellowship to an Endowed Chair.
