Indian-American business executive Dave Goswami and his wife, Dr. Vardhana Goswami, have pledged $1.6 million to the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), funding the creation of the Dave & Vardhana Goswami Lecture Hall Complex on the Varanasi campus. The state-of-the-art facility will serve undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, accommodating up to 1,850 learners at a time.
The three-storey complex will integrate smart classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, advanced acoustics, high-speed Wi-Fi, ergonomic seating, and inclusive infrastructure to ensure accessibility for all. Group study areas and technology-enabled teaching spaces will encourage interdisciplinary exchange, preparing students to thrive in a global knowledge economy. The gift also propels the IIT (BHU) Foundation past the $10 million milestone in total donations, marking a significant moment in its mission to strengthen the institute’s future.
The lecture hall complex is expected to become a hub for academic excellence and innovation, supporting the institute’s efforts to deliver a world-class educational experience to the next generation of leaders.
Leadership at the helm of a global enterprise
A 1974 Mechanical Engineering graduate from IIT (BHU), Goswami is Chairman and CEO of IPS Enterprise, where he develops strategic directions for the short- and long-term sustainable growth of multiple business units. These include IPS Life Sciences Business, Linesight, and new ventures such as Advanced Technology. He also serves as the primary interface with Berkshire Hathaway, which is one of the world’s largest holding companies, and the IPS Board.
Since assuming leadership of IPS in 2007, Goswami has been the driving force behind its 15-fold growth, establishing it as a trusted global brand in life sciences engineering and project services. His vision and leadership were instrumental in IPS becoming part of the Berkshire Hathaway family.
Just two months ago, Goswami marked a significant leadership transition within Berkshire Hathaway, noting in a public post about the passing of the baton from Warren Buffett to Greg Abel, to whom he now reports. He expressed pride in leading IPS as part of the Berkshire Hathaway family and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the values and vision that define the group’s enduring legacy.
