Known as one of the oldest handicraft of Kashmir, Kani shawl originates from the Kanihama area of Kashmir. Made from pashmina, it’s the Mughal patterns usually of flowers and leaves that makes Kani shawl an exquisite work of art. Depending on the intricacy and complexity of the design, an artisan can weave a maximum of one inch per day. In fact, one shawl takes up to 3 to 5 years to be completely made. Interestingly, there is no other handloom product that takes so much time to create as Kani jamwar pashmina shawl because of the intricacy of the workmanship and the amount of labor it takes.
