KD Jadhav, the first ever Indian to win an Olympic medal in an individual sport

Wrestler Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav created history in 1952 when he became the first Indian to bag an Olympic medal (bronze) in an individual sport. Twenty seven-years-old at the time, Jadhav had participated in the Helsinki Olympics, although he’d initially found himself being overlooked in the squad. He went on to write to the Maharaja of Patiala, a patron of wrestling and who had a say in the selection. The Maharaja convinced the authorities to hold a bout again that paved the way for Jadhav to create history.
